Working proposal • 2026–2027

Proposed Outings Program

We are developing a full season of weekday outings for PROBUS Western Ottawa. The program below is our current working proposal. Dates and details may change as venues and group arrangements are confirmed.

Planning status: These are proposed outings, not yet final bookings. A volunteer lead will be assigned to each outing and confirmed details will be announced at meetings and in the PROBUS Pilot.

September 2026

Mud Lake Nature Walk

An easy local nature outing to start the season, with time to walk, socialize and enjoy one of Ottawa’s best urban natural areas.

Planning: Choose a weekday date and route; publish walking distance, terrain, washroom information and a rain plan.

Parliament / House of Commons

A guided Parliament visit, with the goal of including House proceedings or Question Period if tickets and the sitting schedule permit.

Proposed day: approximately 10:30 a.m. arrival, 11:00 a.m. tour, lunch around 12:15 p.m., followed by House proceedings if available.

To confirm: tour/gallery access, security timing, tickets, maximum group size and cost.

Canadian War Museum

A guided visit to the Canadian War Museum, suitable for a group of about 20 people.

Estimated cost: adult admission about $14.50 plus approximately $4 + tax per person for a guided tour. Veterans and military members may qualify for free admission.

Holiday Lunch & Theatre

A seasonal social outing combining lunch with a local theatre performance.

Current option: Ottawa Little Theatre’s Ethan Claymore’s Christmas. Group pricing has been identified at approximately $24 per person for groups of 15 or more.

To confirm: performance time, lunch location, ticket availability and group minimum.

Diefenbunker

A guided visit to Canada’s Cold War Museum in Carp, exploring the underground bunker and its role in Canadian history.

Plan: regular guided tour for approximately 20 people.

To confirm: group pricing, tour time and accessibility arrangements.

Winter Social Lunch

A relaxed mid-winter lunch outing focused on conversation and fellowship, with an accessible local restaurant selected closer to the date.

Senate of Canada Building

A guided visit to the Senate’s temporary home in Ottawa’s historic former railway station, ideally during a sitting period.

To confirm: tour availability, sitting calendar, gallery access, security requirements and group size.

Spring Heritage Walk

A weekday historical walking tour, with Beechwood Cemetery, Heritage Ottawa or a Manotick heritage walk among the options being investigated.

To confirm: final location, guide, cost, walking distance, accessibility, parking, washrooms and weather backup.

Local Food / Facility Tour

A behind-the-scenes local visit, with greenhouse, food-production and rural destination ideas under consideration.

Golf & Lunch

A relaxed end-of-season golf outing followed by lunch, designed to accommodate both golfers and members who would like to join for the social portion.

To confirm: course, tee times, 9-hole pricing, carts, lunch arrangements and maximum number.

Other outing ideas being considered

Ottawa Glassblowing Co-op

Demonstrations can accommodate up to about 20 people per 30-minute session.

Estimated group cost: $170 + tax per demonstration — about $8.50 + tax each with 20 participants.

Beechwood Cemetery

A private historical tour is being investigated for spring, with group size, cost, accessibility and walking requirements still to be confirmed.

NCC Hikes

Past PROBUS hikes were very popular. Additional easy, Level 1-style weekday walks are being reviewed for the program.

We are looking for members who would be willing to help organize or lead individual outings. Suggestions for additional destinations are also welcome.
